About the species:
The Black-chinned Hermit is small measuring about 9 to 10 cm (3.5 to 3.9 in). Black-throated Hermits look similar to Reddish Hermits (P.ruber), except for their noticeable dark brown throats and whitish feathers under their tails. Many hermits have reddish underparts, a greenback, and a striped face, but the Black-throated Hermit stands out with its dark throat and white lower belly. It is challenging to spot this bird when it swiftly moves between flowers in the darkness. Sometimes, while perched low, it sings in a high-pitched voice accompanied by a squeaky sound.
