About this species:
Lesser Violetears are medium-sized hummingbirds. There is a blue or purple cheek patch evidently surrounded by a sparkly green body. There is a slight decurvature to the bill. Both sexes share similar characteristics. The Mexican Violetear is extremely similar, but their ranges do not overlap. South American Sparkling Violetears have a violet belly and are larger. Single specimens can be found in forests, where they are quite common. Visiting feeders and gardens is also part of his duties. Keep an ear out for the constant chipping.
