A Koepcke's Hermit is a small, unobtrusive species found in the foothills of the eastern base of the Andes in Peru. An ecological survey of an isolated mountain range in central Peru, the Cerros del Sira, led to its discovery in 1977. The Andean foothills are home to this large, orangish hermit. Typical hermits have a grayish-green back and a black mask.
