Jesús H. Vichareli
San Antonio, Texas

I’ve had a passion for the arts from an early age. In my youth, I spent countless hours drawing characters from newspaper comic strips; eventually creating several of my own original cartoon characters. You would find me drawing every moment possible. It was my childhood dream to one day work for Hallmark Cards, Inc. Despite such an affection for creating, I only had one class of art in 8th grade until I went to art school as an adult.

During high school, my parents wanted me to study architecture. I buckled down and took every science and math class I could sign up for to prepare. Even with my workload, I always found time to draw. You might say it kept me grounded and relaxed.  As my high school career was coming to an end, I thought long and hard if architecture was the route I wanted to take to make a career out of. That’s when I decided on graphic design.

I graduated with honors from The Art Institute of Dallas with a degree in Visual Communications. With an emphasis on commercial and fine arts, I felt I had the best of both worlds. Thirty-three years after graduating, I still love working as a Graphic Designer, and I still make time to draw and paint, and guess what; I lived my childhood dream as an artist at Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri.

My favorite subject is hummingbirds. I’ve always been drawn to their incredible agility and delicate beauty. My mother loved them in our backyard, and always fed them. I carry on this tradition to this day.
